IV Therapy for a Cold: What to Discuss with a Doctor in Mallorca

An IV drip is not an established cure for a common cold. Before choosing a treatment advertised for “immunity” or “recovery”, the useful first question is what care your symptoms actually require. Medical assessment and treatment selection are separate from choosing a product online.
Hydration and treating a cold are different questions
A cold is usually managed with rest, fluids and symptom relief. Symptoms that worsen, fail to improve or occur alongside an underlying health condition may need medical advice. NHS guidance also notes little evidence that supplements such as vitamin C make a cold resolve more quickly. Common cold: NHS.
Replacing fluid when medically necessary does not mean a vitamin infusion treats the infection itself. The American College of Clinical Pharmacology highlights limited evidence for broad wellness-infusion claims and recognises risks from intravenous administration. ACCP position statement.
Questions for your consultation
You can ask the doctor to explain:
- Whether the symptoms need assessment before discussing an infusion.
- Whether you can meet your fluid needs by drinking.
- What, if any, treatment is proposed and why.
- Which alternatives, risks and follow-up arrangements are relevant to you.
- What the appointment involves and which fees apply.
These questions help make the purpose of the appointment clear. They do not imply that you need a particular test, vitamin formulation or course of treatment.
Prepare a short summary
For your appointment, note when symptoms began, how they have changed and which medicines or supplements you use. Bring relevant previous reports if available. If you are visiting Mallorca, tell the team your preferred language and how long you will remain on the island so arrangements can be discussed before confirmation.
Keep sensitive medical reports out of a general initial website enquiry. The team can explain the appropriate way to share information needed for your care.
