Taking Several Medicines? Prepare for a Medical Appointment in Mallorca

MEDICINES · PREPARING FOR A CONSULTATION
A medical appointment away from home is easier to organise when your medicines information is clear. The goal is not to reduce or change treatment simply because you take several products. It is to give the doctor an accurate picture of what you use, why you use it and what has recently changed.
Make one current list
Include prescription medicines, products bought without a prescription and supplements. Record the name, strength, usual dose and how you actually take each one. If the name differs between countries, a photograph of the original packaging can help the conversation. Include medicines used only occasionally, rather than listing only the regular ones.
Describe changes and concerns in your own words
Note when a medicine was started, stopped or adjusted by a clinician. Explain symptoms you have noticed without assuming that a particular product is responsible. Mention missed doses, practical difficulties and anything you are unsure about. Your account helps the doctor identify which questions need attention.
Understand what a medicines review is for
NHS England describes a structured medication review as a comprehensive discussion that takes account of the person’s health and medicines. It is an opportunity to consider benefits, risks and how treatment is used. A private consultation in Mallorca has its own individually agreed scope; the NHS model is background information rather than a promise of a particular service.
Do not make changes just to prepare for the visit
Do not stop, restart or alter prescribed treatment on the basis of this article. Ask the clinician responsible for your care if you are unsure what to do. If you suspect a severe reaction or have acute serious symptoms, seek urgent medical help; in Spain the emergency number is 112.
Connect the appointment with your usual care
Bring relevant recent monitoring reports and identify who normally prescribes your medicines. Ask which information should be shared with that practice and who will organise any agreed review. Mention the length of your stay and your departure date. Having a list is useful, but it does not replace the clinical judgement needed for an individual decision.
