Persistent symptoms & personal care
A report described as normal can be reassuring without explaining why you still feel exhausted. Persistent fatigue deserves a conversation about the symptom itself, the tests already performed and the wider medical context. The next step is not automatically a larger panel of tests or an infusion.
Clarify what “normal blood tests” actually means
Ask for a copy of the report rather than relying on a brief message. Which tests were included? When were they taken? What question were they intended to answer? A normal result only relates to the measurements made; it is not a complete assessment of every possible cause of tiredness. MedlinePlus notes that results within a reference range do not always exclude a health problem.
Bring those results to the appointment. Reviewing the work already done helps you and the doctor decide which questions remain open, without treating every consultation as a new starting point.
Describe the fatigue in your own terms
“Tired” can describe several different experiences. You might mean sleepiness, a lack of energy, reduced concentration or becoming unusually exhausted after ordinary activities. Explain what you can no longer do comfortably, how long the change has lasted and whether it is constant or comes in episodes.
Consider writing down a few examples before your appointment: an afternoon meeting you struggle to follow, a walk that now leaves you depleted, or sleep that no longer feels refreshing. A short, concrete account is often more useful than a long list of suspected diagnoses.
Look beyond the laboratory report
The NHS identifies a range of possible contributors to fatigue, including sleep difficulties, stress, some medicines and medical conditions. It advises seeing a doctor when tiredness lasts for weeks without a clear reason, affects daily life or comes with other symptoms. Tests may be selected to investigate particular possibilities, such as anaemia, diabetes or thyroid disease. Read the NHS guidance on tiredness and fatigue.
For your consultation, prepare to discuss sleep, snoring, work patterns, recent illness, mood, appetite and any changes in medicines or supplements. These are topics for assessment, not a checklist that diagnoses the cause. Do not stop a prescribed medicine because you suspect it may be contributing; discuss it with a clinician.
Agree a plan rather than collecting more results
Useful questions include: what has already been reasonably assessed, what needs further investigation, and when should the situation be reviewed? If another test is proposed, ask what decision it is intended to inform. If no additional testing is recommended now, ask what changes should prompt another appointment.
A plan may involve further assessment, practical recommendations, follow-up or referral, depending on the findings. There is no universal “fatigue package” that can be selected responsibly from this article. The objective is a clearer understanding of your circumstances and an appropriate next step.
Prepare for an appointment in Mallorca
- Bring previous blood tests and relevant medical correspondence.
- List medicines, supplements and any recent changes.
- Record when the fatigue started and how it affects everyday activities.
- Note additional symptoms and the questions most important to you.
- Tell the team if your stay in Mallorca is short, so follow-up arrangements can be discussed.
If fatigue is accompanied by chest pain, severe breathlessness, collapse or sudden neurological symptoms, seek emergency help rather than waiting for a routine appointment. In Spain, call 112 for an emergency.
Questions patients often ask
Does fatigue mean I need IV vitamins?
No treatment can be selected from tiredness alone. Discuss the clinical reason for any proposal, its risks and alternatives. A consultation does not commit you to an infusion.
Can I ask for help while visiting Mallorca?
You can contact the team to discuss an appointment, your dates and preferred language. Availability and any follow-up arrangements are confirmed individually.
